Welcome to Help-You-eFile

Help-You-eFile will make completing your individual Income Tax Return (ITR12) easier. You "share" your eFiling browser screen with our agent who will then talk you through the process, helping you address any difficulties you experience in completing your return. For more detailed information, click here.

Simply follow these steps:
Step 1:Call the SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 SARS (7277) and select option 5 for Help-You-eFile.
 When prompted for your Session ID, enter the 5 digit number found on your toolbar above.
 A SARS agent will call you (call back will be enabled once you accept the terms and conditions).
Step 2:A pop-up message will now be displayed with your SARS agent's name for you to confirm whether you would like the SARS agent to assist you.
Step 3:Select 'Yes' to allow the agent to see your actions on the eFiling website and highlight areas on the page to help you resolve your query.

Note:The agent will have no other access to your computer and will not be able to view any other web pages or sensitive information. Passwords and bank account details are hidden at all times.

Help-You-eFile is a new service that:
  • Gives eFilers access to one of our specially trained agents to guide you while you're eFiling.
  • "Shares" your eFiling screen with a SARS agent who will help you with completing your tax return.
  • Allows you to benefit from the support and advice of SARS staff without having to walk into a branch.
  • Please note that Help-You-eFile is only available for certain functions on the eFiling website. In time we plan to extend the service. Click here for the list of functions which Help-You-eFile currently supports.
How to get started with your Help-You-eFile session?
  • Accept the Terms and Conditions.
  • Get your Help-You-eFile session ID number on your toolbar.
  • Call the SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 SARS (7277), select option 5 on the telephone system and when prompted, enter your Help-You-eFile session ID.

Is my information secure?

Yes! Don't worry, your banking details and login information cannot be seen by our agents.

Can I get help with forms?

Help-You-eFile is only available on those forms which use Adobe Flash Player and not PDF forms. To install Adobe Flash Player, click here

A Help-You-eFile session can only be started by you and is available for the following functions on the eFiling website:
  • Individual income tax return (ITR12).
  • Statement of account (SOA).
  • Notice of assessment (ITA34).
  • Tax calculator.
  • Payments.
  • Password reset.
  • Change own password.
  • Supporting documents.
  • Request for correction.
  • Returns History.

Initially not all screens will be available to share; if they're not available a pop-up message will appear on the page to let you know.

By accepting the Terms and Conditions applicable to the use of Help-You-eFile, it means that you are also accepting the Terms and Conditions applicable to The SARS eFiling website and specifically acknowledge that:

  1. You are familiar with and accept The SARS eFiling website Terms and Conditions.
  2. You are the taxpayer, the representative taxpayer, or the taxpayer's duly authorised agent, with the necessary written authority from the taxpayer, as contemplated in The SARS eFiling website Terms and Conditions.
  3. All information provided by you, during the Help-You-eFile session with the SARS agent, shall be true, correct and complete.
  4. The Help-You-eFile session will be recorded and retained in the manner stipulated in The SARS eFiling website Terms and Conditions and may be used by SARS as evidence in any court proceedings. However, any taxpayer banking details will not be accessible to any SARS agent, at any time during the Help-You-eFile session or thereafter.
  5. You, as the initiator of the Help-You-eFile session, understand that the SARS agent will not, at any time during the Help-You-eFile session or thereafter, be able to change any of the information on your eFiling profile. The only function the SARS agent will be able to perform during the Help-You-eFile session is to highlight areas for your attention and discuss them with you.
